Last night’s intra-club final saw the Wolverines and Lions compete for the 2018 title. The Wolverines had taken the win during the group stages of the competition but this was forgotten as both teams settled into the first set.

The tone of the match was set early on with some excellent attacking and defensive play interspersed with some basic errors. Wolverines took the lead midway through the first set but Lions began to claw their way back into contention, falling just short as Wolverines took the first set.

Despite losing the first set the Lions started well and began to apply pressure on the opposition. The lead came and went as both teams struggled to win more than a few points before allowing the other back in the set. However, Wolverines took and maintained the lead in the final stages claiming the second set of the match.

The Lions re-grouped during the change of ends and came out fighting, quickly taking an 8-point lead at the start of the third set. Although the Wolverines battled well, the Lions stuck with it and took the set. GAME ON!!!!

The fourth set saw some amazing pick ups, great serving, big blocks and huge hitting from both teams. Just like the other sets, this one went one way then the other, before the Wolverines rallied to clinch the final few points needed to claim victory.
