League season gets off to a WINNING start

Last weekend saw 2 of the 4 club teams start their 2018-19 league campaigns, both winning their opening matches.

In the Ladies division, the Wildcats took on Kings Langley Warriors and under the guidance of Coach Fabian came away with a 3-0 win. In fact they only gave up 29 points over the 3 sets! Jana was voted Most Valuable Player by the opposition (a new award started by the HVA this year). A big THANK YOU to Zhen, Rachel and Stef for officiating the match.

In Men’s Division 1, the Hawks started their season with a home game against Harriers on Sunday evening. Team Captain Max was coaching following a recent injury but he hopes to back involved on the court for their next match.  Starting strong and making some excellent attacks and defensive blocks the Hawks also claimed a 3-0 win; 25-13, 25-14 & 25-15. Ian Drew was voted player of the match following some excellent serving and attacking contributions. A big THANK YOU to Fiona, Mel & Jana for officiating.

Away from the league the club held it’s first friendly match allowing players who may not get as much playing time in the League, an opportunity to develop a greater understanding of how a match is played. The Hornets (Capt Neil) & Wasps (Capt Russell) played out some great rallies with the match going to a deciding 5th set. The Hornets took an early lead in the 5th and despite a comeback from the Wasps it wasn’t to be. Hornets claimed the victory 3-2.

The Intra-Club competition will again be taking place this year with the draw for players taking place on Monday 15th October. All players will be allocated a team (unless you let Lynne know otherwise) with matches taking place throughout the season.

Upcoming matches

Good luck to the Queen Bees who take on VK Barnet on Saturday 13th October and the Falcons who begin their Division 2 title defence against VK the following Saturday.
