Double WIN for the Men’s teams

It was a busy Saturday for the Falcons and Hawks teams as they played in a Division 2 and Cup Quarter-final respectively.

Falcons took on a youthful VK Southgate team at home in their match. The first 2 sets followed a similar pattern with Falcons establishing a lead before giving way a number of points to allow the opposition back into the set. After re-grouping Falcons secured the first 2 sets. In the 3rd set VK raised their level again and took an extended lead that despite their best efforts, Falcons were unable to overcome (23-25). With court time running out it was important for Falcons to get ahead and stay there in order to claim the overall victory. With some good serving and attacking play they were able to do just that. The WIN takes them just below KL Knights in the league table with the 2 teams set to face each other in the coming weeks.

The Hawks followed this match having had the venue changed due to a lack of court time at MK. The first set was won in strange circumstances as MK only had 5 players ready to go so Hawks claimed the first set. With the 6th man arriving the second set began with both teams locked together following some excellent play from both teams as well as some mistakes. MK pulled away at the business end of the set taking it 25-23.
A change of rotation led to a run of serves from Jason and some strong attacks driving the team out to a 12-2 lead. This proved too much for MK with Hawks closing it out 25-16. The 4th set again saw some amazing play one both sides of the court in both attack and defence but it was Pio who provided the winning point with Hawks taking the set (25-22) and the match 3-1. Zhen was voted MVP for this match. With a place secured in the Cup Semi-Final Hawks now await the winners of Vale vs Watford who have to play their match by the end of February.

As always, none of the matches would have been possible without the officials giving up their time, a big THANK YOU to you all
