Lions claw their way back into contention

The third match of the Intra-club league saw the Lions take on the Sharks. Having lost their first match the Lions were looking to get a win on the board with the Sharks hoping to make it 2-0 following their victory over the Black Widows.

The first set was a close affair with both teams looking to establish themselves. The Lions took an early lead with some good serving and managed to stay ahead of the Sharks, taking the first set 25-20. After the break the Sharks came out knowing that they had to increase the pressure on the Lions if they were to stay in the match. The Sharks pulled out an early lead but the Lions then went on a run of points themselves to bring them back into contention. The Sharks however, made a number of strong attacks and pulled away to take the second set 25-15. This seemed to inspire the Lions and the next 2 sets saw some great play including some amazing pick-ups and attacks from both teams. However, a number of receiving errors and missed opportunities allowed the Lions to gain the advantage towards the end of the 3rd and 4th sets to claim the overall victory.

The win means that a place in the final is still on offer to any of the teams making this years’ competition one of the closest for some time.

Well done to all those involved and many thanks to the officials for their time.
